Why did my mining earnings suddenly drop significantly?

Difficulty increased
As more miners join the network, difficulty rises—your hardware solves fewer blocks in the same time. This is the most common cause and something you cannot control. It's built into most cryptocurrencies' design.
Coin price fell
If the coin's market price drops, your rewards in fiat currency drop proportionally. A hardware problem, pool issue, or overclock change didn't cause this—the entire market did. You can't predict or prevent this.
Hardware issues
Check actual hashrate against expected performance. Overheating, driver crashes, or physical failure reduce output. Restart, check temperatures, update drivers. If hashrate is normal but earnings appear low, the coin or network is the issue, not your setup.
Pool problems
A pool outage, merge, or closure causes sudden payment stops. Check pool status and mining logs. Switch pools if necessary, but expect a brief earning interruption during the migration.
Your settings changed
Accidental power limit reduction, intensity decrease, or thermal throttling cuts performance silently. Verify your current settings match your intended configuration.
None of these are permanent disasters—earnings fluctuation is normal in mining.
